The Brewery Tour

Not many people will have heard of Anheuser-Busch but say the words Budweiser or Bud Light and the majority will instantly think beer and of course they’d be right!

St Louis is the North American HQ for this vast company and following our trip up the Gateway Arch, we decided to do a tour of their huge brewery which sits on a 100 acre site close to the centre of the city. It was a good move because it turned into one of those experiences that you weren’t sure about initially but which you later thought you’re really glad you did that!

The brewery started its life on this site in the mid 1850s having been founded by a German immigrant and grew over the years into a behemoth becoming the world’s largest before ultimately being acquired by AB InBev, a Belgium company, in 2008.

A knowledgeable guide clearly adds to the experience as well as a couple of free beers on the way around!  Linda has never been a beer drinker, much preferring a glass of chilled Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.  However, the one beer that she has drunk a few of during our 50 years together is a Bud Light and so there was no refusal of these freebies when offered!
