Once upon a time I used to blog quite frequently when on our regular travels and at least the odd person appeared to find my musings quite interesting (thanks Angela) and pestered me to resurrect the practice on our next journey overseas.
In truth, I got out of the habit because deep down, I believed that no one was truly interested anymore and that my writing style had in fact become rather mundane, nay boring.
However, a momentous occasion which takes place on 12th September and a somewhat ingenius idea from my better half Linda relating to this date, has re-ignited my enthusiasm to perhaps create one more blog about our next trip.
What is that occasion you might ask? Well it's our Golden Wedding Anniversary. Yes, the 12th September marks 50 years of being together and what better way to celebrate than with a road trip in America to fulfil an ambition that was formulated as long ago as 1989 - to visit each and every one of the US States.
To date, we have manged to set foot in 41, leaving just 9 to be visited. In truth, I've actually visited three more than Linda as a result of individual trips to the Detroit Motor Show (Michigan) and the Ryder Cup (Minnesota and Wisconsin) but to do it properly, we both have to have set foot in all fifty together and so we begin this new adventure - "Fifty in Fifty" (genius title from Linda) - with a British Airways flight to Chicago on Thursday 7th September.
It has been something of a rush getting ready for this trip having only just returned at the weekend from a fun-filled visit to Tuscany with all our family (photo below). That was also to celebrate me reaching 70 (and still retaining my youthful looks! 😁😁) as well as the milestone of 50 years married we reach next week.
